It is likely that in 1925, when Jacob Golomb designed and introduced men's boxer briefs, he did so precisely to provide comfortable underwear that men could wear .
However, the material most used in this type of clothing is practical and economical, such as polyester, which is not such a comfortable material when it comes to underwear and is also not environmentally friendly.
Men's boxer shorts: are you wearing the right one?
Apart from choosing the perfect color and size, it is also necessary to take into account other characteristics that are even more important, for example, the material with which your boxer was made.
Polyester, a very common material in the manufacture of clothing, is a synthetic fiber that is responsible for the pollution of our rivers and the ocean. Why?
When washed, garments made from polyester release microscopic-sized fibers that end up in the drain. These tiny fibers contribute to water pollution because they are not biodegradable. These polyester fibers are part of the micro plastics that are talked about in the newspapers.
So, if we talk in terms of the best materials, you have to know that natural fabrics or fibers are the queens of friendly materials, not only with the planet, but with your health. It does not matter if it is loose or tight, a boxer whose material is synthetic prevents perspiration. So we recommend that you avoid them, even if they have a design that caught your eye.
The men's boxers that we have in our store are made of organic cotton with GOTS certification . And they are the ones that you should definitely start using because they bring you many benefits:
- They are soft on your skin: as the organic cotton fabric does not have any chemical products, when you wear this type of boxer shorts you will notice that it is much softer in contact with your skin.
- They are breathable: we already told you that the synthetic material prevents perspiration. Cotton, on the other hand, allows your skin to breathe perfectly in any season of the year.
- It protects you against irritations and allergies: because it does not contain irritating chemicals, which are the ones that generally cause these problems and others.
- You take care of the environment and consume in a sustainable way, because you acquire a product that has not produced and will not produce toxic waste that will end up released into the soil and water.
What is GOTS certified organic cotton?
Unlike organic, cotton has been used to make all kinds of clothing for centuries thanks to its many benefits. However, its conventional agriculture and production carries some environmental risks, since chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers and insecticides are used for its production. All this together with genetically modified seeds and huge amounts of water.
But fortunately, since 2008 organic cotton – which is the complete opposite of conventional cotton – has gradually increased in terms of demand and production. However, on many occasions this material is mixed with synthetic fibers in order to lower the costs of the final garment and thus be able to be sold as a sustainable product, something that is not entirely true.
For this reason, the need arose to certify 100% organic cotton. And that is how the GOTS certificate was born, for its acronym in English Global Organic Textiles Standard – in Spanish, Global Organic Textile Standard–. This certification means that the production of this cotton has been sustainable, from its cultivation, through its processing in a way that respects the environment and is socially responsible.
The standard covers from treatment, preparation, labeling, packaging, trade and distribution. In this case, it is a men's boxer made with a natural fiber that has been produced in an ecological way.
